Aberdeen Concert Series
Details
The Aberdeen Concert Series is a special partnership between the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. We have had the pleasure of designing the promotional materials for the 2014/15 season and the forthcoming 2015/16 season.
Our photographic approach for 2014/15 unifies the musicians from both orchestras with distinctive elements of the local environment: the thrashing waves of the North Sea, the raw granite from which the city was built, the lush greenery of Union Terrace Gardens. Photography had to be worked around rehearsal schedules. So, in addition to being a lovely bunch to work with, we were treated to our very own private performance!
The forthcoming season’s design radiates from the iconic image of the South Breakwater lighthouse in Aberdeen harbour, with each 'beam' showcasing one of the featured artists from each of the series’ concerts.
We thought we had given Traffic a real challenge: to produce an exciting, vibrant brochure for a joint season of RSNO and SCO concerts in Aberdeen. It needed to both segregate and intertwine our two orchestras, whilst giving neither undue prominence. Alongside it had to reflect the vibrancy of Aberdeen and place our concert series firmly at the heart of the cultural life of the city.
Scott and Gordon got the brief immediately and within 24 hours had come up with an innovative, practical, and above all, beautiful design to meet the challenge. The deadlines were impossibly tight but Traffic delivered within the allocated time with a brochure that exceeded all expectations.
