Commonwealth Challenge
Details
As part of the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014 East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture and Sport Scotland Active Schools approached Traffic with an idea to record the Queens Baton coming to the district.
The project ran over a 6 month period with batons, posters, workbooks and a magazine created. The Commonwealth Challenge started with a baton arriving at each of the 36 local primary schools in the area. Each school would leave a message of support to the next school. Each school was then given it’s very own workbook in which they could record what they did in the run up to the Queens Baton. Once all the workbooks had been completed they were collected in and Traffic ran a workshop with the Active Schools Co-ordinators to select the most inspiring work to be used in a commemorative magazine.
The magazine was handed out to school children on the day the Queens Baton arrived in East Dunbartonshire as memento of the occasion and the legacy it left in the area. Each school kept their workbook and magazine as keepsake of what the school did in the Commonwealth year.
